What kind of bikini / swimsuit looks good on my body?

A One Piece, Bikini, a Bandeau or Halter Top?

  • Women want comfort, coverage, and fashion in their swimwear. You want swimsuits you can actually swim in and then look good in as well.
  • There are very few perfect bodies out there! Everyone has something they are trying to deal with. Show off your best assets and conceal the others.
  • Always remember that you are aiming for a balanced silhouette.
  • Three key words to keep in mind are: Color, Construction, and Cut
  • Swimsuits tend to enlarge a bit when wet, so make sure that your swimsuit is not already too large when you buy it. You definitely don’t want to lose it when you dive into a pool!
  • Always be honest with yourself about your swimsuit fit. If your skin is bulging anywhere, you may need to try a larger size. Bathing suit sizes tend to be very different, and more traditional than most clothing. According to traditional sizing, a girl who is 5′7″ and 110 is a size 8.
  • Find it BEFORE you go
    • Find your suit BEFORE you go on vacation. Prices at resorts can be astronomical and you don’t want to spend all of your time looking for a suit that fits, especially in a foreign country that considers a size 3 “average.”
    • Make sure you take your measurements before you start shopping and use those, not size numbers to find your best fit. Choose your tops and bottoms separately so that you can create a custom tailored suit. What ever you do, don’t just sit there on the deck or sand. Get out there and enjoy your tropical adventure!

Small on Top

  • Look for tops with a touch of padding, or an under wire, demi-bra style that makes the most of a beautiful, dainty, bust line. Try to find a top with adjustable straps at shoulders and around back so that you can tighten and adjust things, to help fill out the top line.
  • You are very lucky that you have the body to wear those cute, ruffled tops that are so hot right now, so go for it. And as for bandeau tops, only you can wear those well. You can also show off in those tiny, tri-tops that the big busted girls only dream about.
  • Avoid tops with too much fabric or have a poor fit. Opt for separates, where you can choose your top and bottom separately.

Big on Top

  • You may need some extra support; underwire tops can work well and look great.
  • Halter-top bikinis can be a good choice by offering support, while providing some sexy cleavage too. Look for styles that are banded around the midriff and can be tied in back and around the neck. This style will give you some lift and will allow you to make adjustments for a personal fit.
  • Look for one-piece swimsuits with some structure in the bust, such as soft foam cups or at least, a shelf bra. Straight cut bust styles such as a classic tank can look clean and sporty. Wide shoulder straps will also be much more comfortable than thin, spaghetti straps.
  • Avoid strapless bandeau tops and those tiny, tri-tops that offer minimal coverage. Again, make sure to get a suit where you can order the top and bottom sizes separately.

Best Beaches of 2008!

“Dr. Beach” Names Caladesi Island America’s Best

Miami, FL — Caladesi Island State Park takes the number one spot in the 18th Annual Top 10 Beaches ranking produced by coastal expert Dr. Stephen Leatherman, Director of Florida International University’s Laboratory for Coastal Research.

Caladesi is a pristine getaway beach in the Clearwater/St. Petersburg area, only 20 miles west of bustling downtown Tampa. Traveling to this island is an experience itself as it is reached by pedestrian ferry, complete with old salts telling interesting tales, or by private boat. The bayshore is a mangrove forest interlaced with kayak trails and is a bird lover’s paradise. The only mode of transportation on this lovely island, dominated by palm trees, is by foot over the super fine white sand. There is a great snack bar and other creature comforts to enhance your island experience, and both the grounds and landscape are well maintained. Lifeguards are on duty during the summer beach season, but the waves are generally only measured in inches so don’t bring your surfboard.

Caladesi is a well-kept secret. Surrounded by the beauty of a lush state park, few people in Tampa seem to know its whereabouts, while everyone is familiar with the popular Pier 60 at nearby Clearwater Beach. Caladesi’s real attraction is its powder white sand, warm, crystal clear water and beautiful nature, all making it the number one beach to enjoy and decompress.

As “Dr. Beach,” Leatherman has selected the annual Top 10 Beaches since 1991. Fifty criteria are used to evaluate the beaches, including water and sand quality, as well as facilities and environmental management, as part of the National Healthy Beaches Campaign.

What makes Dr. Leatherman’s selections unique is his knowledge as a Ph.D. coastal scientist with over 30 years of experience studying storm impacts, beach erosion and ways to improve beach health and safety.

The National Healthy Beaches Campaign was established to acknowledge the many beautiful and “healthy” beaches around the country, from seaside to lakeside destinations, for any taste. The Storm & Tides Project is a component of the NHBC.

Sun Tanning Tips

Posted by: Sea Goddess Swimwear on: June 26, 2009

While the majority of health officials confirm that sun tanning in any form is not good for your skin, the craze for acquiring that enviable bronzed body is irresistible to all people with access to the sun and sand. If tan’s the way to go for you, do it safely and prudently so you get the benefits of sun tanning without the side effects. Read on for options to choose from below sun tanning tips:

Sun Tanning Tips

  • If beginning your sun tanning routine during peak summer, begin with only 10 or 15 minutes of exposure to the sun or a tanning lamp to acclimatize your skin to the heat and gradually increase the time as your body becomes more tanned.
  • Remember to choose the right sunscreen with an SPF factor of under 15, but no less than 8 so that you get the minimum necessary protection while taking care not to de-limit your bodily benefits from being sunny side up!
  • Take care to ensure that your skin is moisturized with after-sun lotion opting for a lotion that contains aloe will help make your tan last and also cool the skin since aloe is rich in skin soothing properties.
  • If you are on acne medication, do consult your health care provider before venturing out for a sun tanning session as certain types can lower your resistance to sun.
  • Those with a fair complexion are more prone to sunburn than people with darker complexions and therefore must avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours of 10:00 to 2:00, when its rays are the most harmful and can penetrate the light skin most.
  • Remember to wear sunglasses while tanning in the sun or in a tanning bed as your eyes are precious and can be easily damaged by the scorching rays of noonday sun.
  • The cream or spray-on tanning lotion is the best variety for optimal sun tanning. However, skin care experts advice that one must always test the product on a small area of skin to check for any signs of adverse reactions.
  • Prepare your skin before applying sun-tanning lotion. This can be done by scrubbing away dead skin with a loofah pad before rubbing the lotion on thoroughly. Sun tanning lotion must be applied in slow, deliberate movements to the back of your knees, elbows, ankles and tan lines.
  • Wipe away extra lotion so you do not become a victim of ‘creased tan’ and get the bronzed look evenly-and compliments about your sunny disposition too.
  • Do remember to wash hands or gloves thoroughly with soap and water after applying sun tanning lotion and wait at least 15 minutes before getting skin wet.
  • Find out about the option of using tanning pills, which contain color additives, before trying them out.
  • If there are certain areas you’d rather keep light, you can pre-apply baby oil or lotion to such regions like the knees and elbows, then use sunless tanner on them to keep them from getting too dark.
